Services provided by Systems & Platforms include:

Large Systems

The Large Systems unit of SPA provides comprehensive management for operating systems and software installed on the large system IBM computers.

Large Systems is managed by Rich France.

UNIX Systems

The UNIX Systems unit of SPA provides support for Unix servers and storage services.

Our centrally-managed Unix servers run a mix of AIX and Redhat Linux operating systems. We provide planning, installation, configuration, and maintenance.  Support includes resource management, performance tuning and capacity planning, computer security, hardware and software problem source identification (troubleshooting), and data backup and restoration services.  Both second level and off-hour support are provided as well as 24x7 on-call support.

Storage service provides disk and tape resources to our central servers. Disk storage consists of server attached storage (SAS), network attached storage (NAS), and a storage area network (SAN). A robotic tape library provides backup support for Unix and Windows servers.

UNIX Systems is managed by Pete Brokaw.

Windows Services

Lan Services are provided by Information Technology Services Systems and Platforms Administration group.  The services provided include: file and print sharing support, and Microsoft Active Directory domain support.  File and print support can be provided on existing ITS servers or can be provided by the department.  In either case, administrative functions necessary to support both environments is carefully distributed to a local liaison who is responsible to the department utilizing the service.  ITS will also provide administrative support and an a safe environment for departments who wish to purchase and maintain their own server.

LAN Services is managed by Guy Falsetti.

Operations

The Operations unit of SPA provides resources for day to day operation of The University of Iowa large  computing systems including Academic Computing and Administrative Computing services for the IBM 9672 computer.

Operations is managed by Mark Sadewasser.
